Like so many couples, Megan and Juan’s wedding plans were derailed when the coronavirus took hold across the country (and the world!). Christopher Newport University would have been the backdrop to their special day, but since the pandemic made that impossible Plan B was quickly set into motion. With the help of good friends, Megan’s mom and dad transformed their backyard into a beautiful oasis to celebrate their daughter and Juan’s nuptials. After the ceremony, their limo whisked us to Ferguson Center and the Lion’s Bridge in Newport News so I could capture their first photos together as husband and wife!
Megan and Juan incorporated a Souther tradition into their day that I had never heard before. Bourbon was buried at the ceremony site in their backyard 30 days before the wedding for good luck and to ward off rain. It was unearthed and the bridal party and guests each took a bourbon shot for the couple. There wasn’t a drop of rain the entire day, so maybe there’s something to it!
Now let’s hear Megan and Juan’s story in their words:
We moved to Lynchburg, Va to attend the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Lynchburg College in the summer of 2014. We were oblivious to the others existence until attending a webinar event for our LC DPT community service group the following summer. It was at that event that we had our first lunch together, and realized that we had an instant connection. We dated through the rest of PT school, and moved to NOVA to start our PT careers. In April of 2019, he pulled off a very surprise proposal, incorporating our dogs to assist him. Thinking of every detail, he had both of our families waiting at Shoe’s Cup and Cork in Leesburg for a celebratory dinner.
Their favorite things to do together:
1. We LOVE Buffalo Wild Wings and Coopers Hawk dinner dates 2. We like to workout together 3. We love to go on wine/brewery tours/tastings
What Megan loves about Juan: that he is supportive and motivating.
What Juan loves about Megan: that she is smart and caring.
I’m so grateful to have been able to work with such a sweet beautiful couple. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Duran!!!
An incredible THANK YOU to all the vendors that made their day possible ~
