Lisa & Matt | Great Falls, VA Wedding

There’s something about intimate weddings that I looooove!!  To me, they are incredibly romantic and meaningful.  When Lisa told me that she and Matt’s theme for their wedding was ‘Nothing Fancy, Just Love’ I was all on board!!  Their wedding was at Lisa’s mom’s house in a beautiful wooded neighborhood in Great Falls, VA.  Her dad had created an entertaining space in the basement to host work parties, but it was absolutely perfect for a mini wedding venue!!  Lisa’s wedding rings and bracelet were passed down from her paternal grandmother.  How sweet to keep something so symbolic in the family to pass along to the next generation!  Friends and family came together to help with table arrangements, decorations, creating bouquets, and making appetizers and hors d’oeuvres for their wedding day!!

Although flamingos, raccoons, and bacon are not typically words you would think are associated with a wedding, Matt and Lisa incorporated them all into their special day!  No cookie cutter wedding here!!  It was absolutely tailored to them and couldn’t have been more perfect!

The engagement ring is 75 years old and the wedding ring is 74 years old – passed down from Lisa’s grandmother, Mema!  Matt planned a secret road trip to get the rings from Lisa’s aunt and then proceeded to hide them for almost 3 months before proposing!

The bracelet was also her grandmother’s.  It was a gift from her sister in 1942.

Matt and Lisa met when their girls participated in the Japanese Immersion Program, learning math and science in Japanese!

For Matt’s birthday last year, Lisa and her daughters stuck 50 lawn flamingos in his front yard as a joke!  Lisa explains, “Flamingos are just a symbol of the goofy, playful side of our relationship, and whenever we see flamingo items, we snap a picture and send it to each other. We also have mini flamingos we hide randomly for the other to find (because growing old is not a choice, but growing up is optional!)”  Love this!

Lisa kept it a surprise from Matt that her daughter and friends would be singing and playing guitar for the first dance.  Matt’s reaction upon hearing them says it all!!

It’s a BACON BAR!!  TWENTY POUNDS of bacon!!!!  **Drrooooooollll*

Lisa told me that Matt’s house often has raccoons that come up on the deck and peer through the kitchen window.  So they all came up with the hilarious idea to be running away from a super-sized angry raccoon!  (Her sister Suzanne and her husband chose a t-rex for their wedding!)
